Seabird Spectacular, Saltee Ireland workshop

PLEASE NOTE this trip is cancelled due to Coronavirus and social distancing.

In conjunction with Natures Images, join us on Great Saltee Island for one of the greatest wildlife spectacles to be found around the coastlines of Ireland. Saltee hosts a fantastic Gannet colony along with multiple Auk species, Kittiwakes and Choughs, all very accessible and with specially arranged early morning and late evening crossings scheduled, we will be able to work in the very best light.

Richard Peters is a Nikon Ambassador with a style that often favours dramatic light and contrast. He offers a relaxed, down-to-earth approach to his guiding and has won multiple international awards including twice in the Wildlife Photographer of the Year. He is also one of the only British photographers to have recieved the accolade of European Wildlife Photographer of the Year, alongside being a judge for both that and other international photography competitions.

Ellie Rothnie is a professional, and regularly published, wildlife photographer and Natures Images guide. She has been awarded in competitions such as the British Wildlife Photography Awards and Natures Best. She has a beautiful, clean, and simple style to her work which has resulted in a portfolio of eye catching imagery.

Day 1: We take the 4 hour ferry from Fishguard, Wales, to Rosslare, Ireland. From there we will make our way to Kilmore Quay where we will check into our B&B accommodation and enjoy an evening in a local restaurant.

Days 2-5: We leave early for Great Saltee Island by pre-arranged boat with a local fisherman, taking our food and refreshments for the day with us. We will potentially not be returning until the evening light has gone, so be prepared for a full day out with changeable weather. Packed refreshments will be available for you to order the night before. Please note that the landing on the island is a wet landing: we will transfer from our fishing boat to a smaller Zodiac and then exit this into the shallow waters. For this either bare foot, Wellingtons or waterproof sandals (best option) are the options available for you and they can be left on the shore to switch to your more conventional light walking boots. Great Saltee is one of the premier locations for photographing seabirds and we will get the chance to photograph Guillemots, Razorbills, Kittiwakes, Fulmars and an excellent Gannet colony.

Day 6: We will look to get the moring ferry back across to Fishgaurd, where you will be able to begin your journey home.
