About Me

Me at Donna Nook

Donna Nook, UK

Welcome to my blog, which I built to complement my portfolio site, after having requests for more information about my images and how I captured them. My portfolio site showcases some of my favourite images in a clean simple way and the blog is the place to come for more detailed talk and information.

Tell me about the blog…
As the blog grows, and based on feedback I receive, I am finding myself doing more equipment reviews and processing tips as well as talking about trips out with the camera (there’s even the occasional free giveaway too!). I really enjoy doing this and tweaking the content based on what you, the viewer, wants to read – so keep your comments and suggestions coming. Hit the home button to jump in to the blogs front page, or use the navigation above to read specific sections.

Tell me about you…
Although I started out shooting mainly wildlife, and it’s still my main passion, I’ll try my hand at anything. Through my full time job in the media industry I’ve been lucky enough to do photoshoots for both Sky News (including an aerial shoot of London from an open doored helicopter) and Channel Five in the UK. I’ve had images published in a couple of magazines both in the UK and the U.S. and I’m also on the staff at Naturescapes.net as part of the product review board, where from time to time I’ll be writing exclusive reviews just for the NSN site.

Being based in West London doesn’t exactly go hand in hand with wildlife photography, however I travel to Florida quite a bit too. So much so that it has begun to feel like a second home.

Shooting out in Florida

Florida, USA

I became interested in photography back in 2001 when I went on holiday to Canada. At the time I only had a simple APS film camera but I saw so much amazing scenery and it inspired me to take photo after photo. When I returned home I was given the use of a manual Nikon film camera and I started learning the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO’s and it just went from there…although I really started to invest more time (and not to mention money!) in to it as serious hobby since summer 2006, until that point it was just a fairly casual interest. I now try to dedicate much more time to taking photo’s, although I have a full time job in the television/media industry so I try and squeeze my photography in between shifts – although, unfortunately I can sometimes go a couple of weeks without getting a chance to pick the camera up!

Thanks for looking through my blog, I hope it is of use to some of you, whether its finding out stories behind some of my images of simply discovering a link to a new photography forum you didn’t know about…

Happy reading,
Richard
