Welcome to my blog, which I built to complement my portfolios, after having requests for more information about my images and how I capture them. My portfolio showcases some of my favourite images in a clean simple way whilst the blog is the place to come for more detailed information.
A little more about me
I became interested in photography back in 2001 when I went on holiday to Canada. At the time I only had a simple APS film camera but I saw so much amazing scenery and it inspired me to take photo after photo. When I returned home I was given the use of a manual Nikon film camera and I started learning the relationship between shutter speed, aperture and ISO’s and that was it, I was hooked and never looked back!
The big sell
My work is represented by the photo agency Alamy, and at the end of 2011 I also became a contributor with Rex features, my first submission of which, went beyond my expectations and ended up being printed in newspapers around the world. I’ve also had my work published in magazines both in Europe and the U.S. and they have been used on everything from greeting cards to advertising campaigns.
However, as well as getting out in the field to capture my images, I’ve also enjoyed being on the judging panel for various photographic competitions. This includes being on TV three times as part of the judging panel for the BBC Countryfile annual photographic competition (which came off the back of being a past winner). Plus I’ve also been on the panel for a Nikon Europe photo competition which was part of their I AM NIKON campaign, and also a competition run by Hotpoint Europe, in which I was one of the judges for the UK leg.
In addition to writing for my own blog, I also do occassional articles for the Official Nikon blog as well as the Warehouse Express blog and finally, I’m also on the staff at Naturescapes.net as part of the product review board.
It’s safe to say whether capturing my latest images or writing about my experiences, I’m kept very busy!

On Set Shoot
Although my preferred subject is, and always will be, wildlife and nature, being based in West London doesn’t exactly go hand in hand with that. And so, I try to travel as often as I am able and always look forward to photographing somewhere new, whether it’s nearby locations in the UK or further afield, from the frozen landscapes of Yellowstone National Park in winter to the tropical climate of Hawaii’s night sky photographing The Milky Way.

Florida, USA
I do also like to try my hand in other area’s of photography every now and again and this has led me to enjoy photo-shoots for both Sky News (including an amazing aerial shoot of London from an open doored helicopter) and Channel Five in the UK.
Thanks for looking through my blog, I hope it is of use to some of you, whether its finding out stories behind some of my images, reading my latest equipment review or simply gaining some inspiration to get out in the field yourself.
And if you would like to enquire about the usage of any of my images, or have anything specific you would like photographed, please do get in touch.
Happy reading,
Richard
