Coming at you Live from Texel, Holland
February 22, 2010
I’m currently on the Island of Texel, Holland with fellow photographer Rene De Heer. We are here for the week (20th-27th Feb) and hoping to get a few nice images during our stay. So far the weather has been a mixed bag…the first 24 hours have brought us glorious sunshine, snow storms and fog! It is also very cold with plenty of frozen water around and temps barely above freezing during the day. Our first afternoon consisted of scouting out the island and picking up a few tips from some locals, so we know where there are Short Eared Own and Bittern although seeing them AND photographing them is very different to simply knowing they are here. Plenty of Kestrel and Hare around too amongst other species.
Will also be putting some new kit through it’s paces whilst we are here including the new Nikon 2x TC, the NatureScapes GroundPod and also a car bracket for using a telephoto lens from inside the car with your Wimberley MKII or other similar gimbal.
The internet connection here is a bit hit and miss but I’ll try to do daily updates via my Twitter and Facebook feeds so if you are interested then keep an eye on those, then look out for the official trip report once we are back in the UK.
I leave you now with this very cold Hare, sat in the very dreary, cold, wet fog in a frozen field. Laying on my stomach and dragging myself through snow and frozen mud was the name of the game here. Fingers crossed for slightly better light tomorrow…
EDIT: It’s been a busy month since I visited Texel, and I shall be getting an article about the trip together shortly

Hi Richard,
