I shouldn’t do…I know this…my brain is screaming ‘don’t pay attention you fool, what are you doing?!’. Especially after getting excited by the hype of the D400 rumours ages ago. However, with the D3 being discontinued and more and more speculation that a D3s will be along before long, I am once again finding myself becoming intrigued by the rumour mill and my fingers continue to type as my head fills with hope. Especially if the current ‘rumoured spec’ is anywhere near true…I hate myself for it, I’m trying to stop myself…but I’m weak, and after reading what ‘might’ be part of the spec I’ve caved in, even though I know it’s wrong!
The reason? That spec includes 14fps, yes FOURTEEN, along with full 1080p video. That would make the D3s a very tempting proposition indeed. Although 14fps is a bit of a jump from the current D3 speed of 9fps so it does smell of pre-announcement hype just a bit! As I said though, if true that would make the D3s a seriously impressive camera for applications that require high speed shooting…wildlife, sports and photojournalism would all benefit big time from such blisteringly fast frame rates coupled with that legendary high ISO performance – and who knows, maybe even that has been tweaked a little too! Add 1080p video to the mix and the D3 refresh could be a very nice little addition to the Nikon line up.
But anyway, no real concrete info, just putting in writing the sparks of excitement that are already building in my head…apologies for that…but just the idea of such an impressive ‘upgrade’ has got me all…well…excited…even if it does seem a bit too much of a jump to be true. You never know though, and as more speed has always been one of my big wishes there are at very least one set of crossed fingers out there right now that there is a glimmer of truth to all this…
Would you upgrade?

Assuming it retains the same great low light capabilities of the D3, I’ll upgrade
You and me both Simon
(of course, also assuming they don’t go silly with the price). Even this morning after a good nights sleep I’m still feeling far to hopeful over something that has absolutely no credibility yet lol. And just to add another bit of wishful thinking, wouldn’t it be nice if they also upgraded the write speed so that it would take full advantage of the new Sandisk Extreme Pro cards that have 90mb/s write speed…!
I’ll wait until the first buyers “beta” users give there reactions!, in the mean time I’ll buy the obselete but perfetely useable D3 at a d300 price!!. Kind regards Graham.
I’m not going to make any rash decisions until the official announcement…but my current D3 ‘could’ end up being one of those second hand bargains…!
