WPOTY 2009, how did I get on…

June 25, 2009

This year was my first year entering the Wildlife Photographer of the Year competition (2009), sponsored by Veolia Environment. For those that are familiar with it, it needs no introduction…for those that are not, it is also know as ‘the world’s most prestigious wildlife photography competition’!. Well, I had an email a couple of months ago saying one of my images was through to the final round of judging, so I’ve been quietly waiting to hear back since then. Well, today I finally did! And the the result is…

Veolia Wildlife Photographer of the Year

The news bearing email

…although I got to the finals I did not make the ‘final’ selection.

Not the result I would have liked of course, but, as well has having one image as a finalist I had two make the semi-finals as well. So for my first attempt at entering a competition that had over 43,000 entries, and seeing the quality of some of the photos in last years exhibition, I’m happy that I got as far as I did! And, it’s certainly spurred me on to get out there and take more photo’s and enter again next year…

Close, but not close enough

Close, but not close enough

You can read all about the competition on the official Wildlife Photographer of the Year website and visit the exhibition when it opens at the Natural History Museum in London later in the year.

Oi, aren’t you forgetting something??
You mean, you’d like to know what images I entered? Well I was going to show them but decided they might be put to use in future competitions so they shall remain unknown for now…
