Hi Mark sorry for the delayed reply. If using an EN-EL4a battery OR AA batteries the frame rate is increased from 6fps to 8fps.

Great review, first time I have seen a review with pictures of all the pieces included in the box. Made my mind up for sure, new nikon grip ordered.

Good review!
A miss however is the importance of the fact, that you can also use AA Batteries, which comes in handy when you’re out in the field for prolonged time without the opportunity of charging the Nikon Batteries. They provide enough juice for a full 12 hr shooting day – and if push comes to shove – you get them everywhere as a “rescue” power source.
Aside from that a most excellent review of an accessory that makes these cameras even more competitive!

Excellent review!!! I ripped of 4000 shots shooting a Lacrosse tournament a couple of weeks ago using the AA battery solution with out replacing the batteries once. I have since upgraded the kit with (2) BL-3s, (2) EN-EL4A Batteries and a charger for my D700.

Thanks for the review, Richard. For me, the grip was an automatic “yes, please” decision when acquiring my D300. I used an F5 for years, and the “square” body seems natural/handles better with the heavy pro zooms. Having two batteries on board at all times just makes sense, and it really verifies the value of improved batteries, as well. The D200 and its grip just no comparison to what you get with the MB-D10. Overpriced, though. We’ll see if Nikon maintains this grip for future D000 bodies, in which case it may be a value.

Thanks for sharing your thoughts on the grip. I bought a D300 as back up for my D2X and it does feel rather small after being used to the bigger camera. I’m glad to know the grip is well made as I’m sure I’ll get one shortly.

Richard, this is a really helpful review. Thanks for taking the time to write it. Also, thanks for posting the message in the Nikon Cafe, where I saw your post to it here.

I just ordered this grip for my D300 (already have the D3 and needed a good second camera body). I did not know about the BL-3 battery chamber cover, so your review is perfect in its timing! I will order one right now, along with another EN-EL4a battery.
